Omega-3 mastné kyseliny a kardiovaskulární onemocnění

Omega-3 polynenasycené mastné kyseliny a jejich účinky nejen na kardiovaskulární systém přitahují pozornost odborné i laické veřejnosti již řadu let. Výsledkem jsou tisíce článků a řada monografií, které se zabývají především vlivem konzumace omega-3 mastných kyselin rybího (v menší míře i rostlinného) původu na kardiovaskulární systém. Zvýšení konzumace rybích olejů či doplňků s obsahem eikosapentaenové (EPA) a dokosahexaenové (DHA) kyseliny jsou součástí většiny odborných doporučení pro prevenci kardiovaskulárních příhod. Přes množství dat z laboratorních, experimentálních i klinických studií přetrvává řada otázek. Jaký typ a forma omega-3 mastných kyselin je z hlediska kardiovaskulárního systému nejvhodnější? Jaká je vhodná denní dávka? Který z mnoha mechanizmů účinku rybích olejů je nejdůležitější při snižování rizika cévních příhod? Jaká je tolerance potravinových doplňků s obsahem rybích olejů?
