Cancer of the colon and rectum

The Czech Republic tops the global list of colorectal carcinoma incidence. Malignancy of the colon is detected in some 3 000 persons

annually, while rectal carcinoma is newly diagnosed in 2 500 patients. Early stages of the disease are managed with simple surgical or

endoscopic procedures; in the case of advanced disease, anti-tumour chemotherapy and biological therapy are of major importance

within multimodal therapy. This paper provides basic information on the cytostatic and biological therapy drugs used.
