Aliskiren - direct renin inhibitor

Aliskiren is oral antihypertensive acting as a direct renin inhibitor. In doses 150–300 mg once daily it has proven efficiacy in the treatment

of hypertension and renoprotective effect. It is well tolerated agent with diarrhoea as a most frequent adverse effect. No significant

drug interactions were found. Data from trials evaluating the effects on morbidity and mortality will further define the role of aliskiren

in the antihypertensive pharmacotherapy.
