Overview of opioid analgesics

Opioids are an irreplaceable type of analgesics intended for management of intense acute pain, tumor-related pain, and, in numerous
cases, chronic non-tumor-related pain. Their adequate use has been hindered by the phenomenon of opiophobia. In the Czech
Republic, there is currently a sufficient selection opioids allowing for the necessary individualization of pain treatment. Professionally
guided treatment with opioids results in improved pain management as well as improved functional status and quality of life.
