Hearing loss is one of the most common diseases in the population. The treatment of hearing loss depends on the site of origin of the

disease in the auditory pathway, the causative factor and its duration and intensity. The prognosis of sudden hearing loss is the better, the

sooner (within hours and days) intensive treatment is initiated. Individual treatment methods are mentioned. The results of all types

of treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss are similar: 60–80 % of patients are cured, 20–30 % improve and 10 % to 25 % do not

respond to treatment. In long-term hearing loss, medication therapy is not effective. Measures preventing the development of hearing

loss include treatment of acute respiratory infections, avoidance of exposure to loud environmental noise, use of hearing protection

when exposed to occupational noise and avoidance of ototoxic drugs. Regular preventive hearing tests are of major significance for

early detection of hearing impairment.
