The phosphate anion is abundant in the body and is involved in numerous physiological processes, including storage of energy in highenergy
bonds. Its regular intake in food is essential and, when there is a lack of its natural intake, early initiation of replacement with
pharmaceutical products is important. Oral administration of phosphorus can be done by using food supplements, artificial enteral
nutrition or extemporaneous solutions. Parenteral intake can be provided by using proprietary medicinal products or AIO formulations
prepared extemporaneously, as well as by using concentrated infusion solutions of phosphate salts.
