The present article provides information on the properties and use of clotrimazole in the treatment of mycotic diseases of the skin
and mucosae. The introduction summarizes the basic galenical properties and possibilities of formulating clotrimazole in medicinal
products; next, examples of formulas are presented which are suitable for pharmacy compounding. Combinations of clotrimazole
with other drugs are frequently ordered by physicians in prescriptions for customized medications which, however, have so far been
preparable only when using proprietary creams containing clotrimazole. The use of the pharmaceutical substance allows not only to
prescribe and then to prepare a combined dermatological external drug with a specific stability as well as to preserve the therapeutic
concentration of medicinal substances, but also to prepare solutions for oral and aural administration which are currently not available
in the form of proprietary medicinal products.
