The recent decades have seen major changes in the local treatment of chronic wounds. New dressing materials have become available
which enable moist wound healing conditions. The concept of moist wound care has started an era of development and manufacture
of dozens to hundreds other products of various kinds and different effects, aimed at providing a moist wound environment. Modern
dressing materials offered by the pharmaceutical industry today have been developed based on the recent knowledge of wound healing.
These modern materials used primarily in the treatment of chronic wounds vary in their consistency, material composition and,
as a result, in their effect. Their proper use requires knowledge of the healing process, composition and effect of the individual materials
because, when indicated correctly, they accelerate healing and alleviate the patient's suffering. They are divided into several groups
according to their composition and therapeutic effect, as is mentioned by the author in her review article.
