Symptomatic treatment of influenza

Jiří Slíva
Ústavy farmakologie 2. a 3. LF UK, Praha

Influenza is an acute viral disease, posing a particular risk for the elderly and for multimorbid patients; nevertheless, it does affect all

age groups. Despite available vaccination, however, epidemic or, less frequently, pandemic incidence of influenza is encountered due

to a constantly changing causative viral agent. A wider use of antiviral drugs (oseltamivir, zanamivir or amantadine) continues to have

limitations; therefore, symptomatic treatment still plays a dominant role.
