Infectious diseases, whether viral, bacterial, or other etiology, accompanied our population throughout its existence. For many centuries,
infectious diseases were very common cause of death, regardless of age. Antibiotic treatment has commenced a new era in the treatment
of infectious diseases. In the last decades, there was, unfortunately, also excessive use of antibiotics and are now confronted with a serious
resistance to many antibiotics. Manifestation of adverse events of the treatment with antibiotics and an increased number of resistant
microbial strains compels us to think also to other than antibiotic treatment of infections.
