Colitis due to Clostridium difficile is within the past decade cause of epidemics worldwide and raising prevalence is being reported. Geriatric

patients with numerous comorbidities who were repeteadly hospitalized and recently treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics

are mostly affected. Treatment with aminopenicillins, cefalosporines, fluorochinolones and lincosamides is therefore of great concern.

The disease may be treated either with vancomycin (orally), metronidazole or fidaxomicine. Fecal microbiota transplantation may be

used in recurrent disease. The authors presentbasic informations about this severe condition and its treatment.
