Hypoglycaemia occurs as a result of disproportion between the antidiabetic administered, energy expenditure, and the amount of saccharides
used. The majority of hypoglycaemic events can be predicted since they result from erroneous treatment decisions. However, some
hypoglycaemias arise from the treatment options, and can hardly be managed with lifestyle measures. The aim is to develop a dosage form
containing pellets with delayed glucose release. The dosage form comprises an inert core in the form of a pellet containing glucose coated
with a membrane that releases glucose with a time delay when passing through the gastrointestinal tract. According to diabetological
practice, the periods of, e. g., 2, 3, 4, or 6 hours can be considered appropriate for releasing glucose. Thus, a safe level of blood sugar is warranted
for a required time without disrupting the daily schedule in the diabetic patient.
