Statins are the key drugs for LDL-cholesterol lowering: they have a lot of evidences that they decrease not only cholesterol, but also cardiovascularevents and mortality. Second-line choice for lowering LDL-cholesterol is ezetimibe, which is intended to combination with statins. This year were published results of IMPROVE-IT study which showed that addition of ezetimibe to statin has also clinical benefit – decrease ofcardiovascular events. New lipid-lowering drugs are PCSK9-inhibitors, first two of which were already approved for clinical use.

This article aims to provide an overview about mucoadhesive dosage forms applied to the oral cavity, focusing on the innovative formulationsof mucoadhesive films in terms of their advantages, composition, preparation and practical use. Films (patches) composed of mucoadhesivepolymers prepared by any of the established methods (solvent casting, melt-extrusion, etc.) may be promising candidates for oral administrationof many drugs, especially for their flexibility and convenience of use. Other advantages of these formulations include prolongation ofa short retention time of conventional oral dosage forms to the mucosa and administration of precise doses...
