Drug form interchanges are considered as a source of savings in drug cost. The drug form interchanges produce reduction in drug costs as well asin hospital stay costs. The aim of this study is to demonstrate effectivity of these procedures under specific conditions of Czech healthcare system.Previously published data combined with current prices of selected antibiotics and costs per hospital day were used. Drug form interchangesand shortening the time of the intravenous therapy produce potential cost savings as high as 2 % of cost per hospital day in particular healthcarefacility. In the previously published study they were around 10 %. Economic impact of drug form interchanges is not as significant as abroad.
