Chronic venous disease is a serious, progressive condition with a high morbidity. In addition to signs, venous disease is accompanied by a number of symptoms, such as leg pain, feeling of tired and heavy legs, tingling, cramps, and swelling. Since patients often seek help in the pharmacy first, a pharmacist’s role is to educate on possible implications of venous disease and recommend the need for being examined by a general practitioner, skin or vascular specialist. A pharmacotherapy that is correctly chosen, effective, verified, and initiated early results in symptom relief, reduction in leg swelling, improved quality of life of patients, and slowing of the progression of this progressive chronic venous disease (1).
