Acetaminophen (paracetamol) is well known and one of the most used analgesics and antipyretic since 1893 with very good toxicity profile. Nevertheless the toxicity of acetaminophen (in Europe called paracetamol) is not negligible. The review assumes the new facts about mechanism of action, toxicity, toxicity risk stratification and toxicity therapy protocols with prevention.

Co-analgesics are a diverse group of drugs that includes anticonvulsants and antidepressants, and others (local anaesthetics, bisphosphonates, calcitonin, muscle relaxants, corticosteroids, spasmolytics, benzodiazepines). They can be used at any step of the WHO ladder alone or in combination with other analgesics. Correct choice of co-analgesics is summarized in the following text. The high prevalence of diabetes mellitus, substantial costs associated with treatment of late complications of this disease and still a considerable proportion of persons who fail to be timely or properly treated, offer possibilities for pharmacists involvement in diabetes care. This report aims to specify the measures and procedures used in the early detection of diabetes mellitus with an emphasis on the possible involvement of the pharmacists.

Hypoglycaemia occurs as a result of disproportion between the antidiabetic administered, energy expenditure, and the amount of saccharides used. The majority of hypoglycaemic events can be predicted since they result from erroneous treatment decisions. However, some hypoglycaemias arise from the treatment options, and can hardly be managed with lifestyle measures. The aim is to develop a dosage form containing pellets with delayed glucose release. The dosage form comprises an inert core in the form of a pellet containing glucose coated with a membrane that releases glucose with a time delay when passing through the gastrointestinal tract. Spring is often connected with specific type of tiredness – so called spring fever. Patients have an urge to cleanse their organism by body cleanse in this time. The article is focussed on possibilities of reduction of spring fever and how to strengthen the most strained detoxification organs of human body – liver, kidneys and bowels. Detoxification of body is not always benefitial. Risk groups include pregnant and breastfeeding women and chronic patients.

The Prague pharmacist Dr. A. Jandouš helped to develop the Czech academic literature in the second half of the 19th century. In addition to original papers from pharmacy and numerous reports from foreign journals, he also wrote three handbooks. The third one deals with the fundamentals of formulation and was intended for pharmacists and medical students. Its subject matter is divided according to dosage forms. The text is supplemented by practical examples and tables. It is also the first publication from the field of galenic pharmacy in this country.
