Administration of the intramuscular injection of benzathine benzylpenicillin (benzathine PNC G) is associated with pain or discomfort, which couldlead to non‑adherence to the therapy. This risk may be even greater in children and adolescents, therefore, it is desirable to minimize the pain, especially when medications containing benzathine PNC G alongside with other ingredients relieving pain are not registered and commercially unavailable. This paper reviews evidence of published literature, describing two alternatives which could be also employed in paediatric practiceto alleviate the pain. Firstly, the procedure of mixing two available medicinal...

The article presents a proposal for a new psychopharmacological nomenclature introduced by leading persons of international neuropsychopharmacologicalsocieties. The aim of this nomenclature, marked as Neuroscience-based Nomenclature (NbN), is to classify psychotropicagents by their pharmacological profile. It was developed to provide more rational choice of medication by its mechanism of action. The lastversion of this nomenclature is focused on pharmacological domains and modes/mechanisms of action. NbN also includes four additionaldimensions: approved indication, efficacy and side effects, practical notes and neurobiology.

Food allergies are adverse food reactions, in which immunologic mechanisms have been demonstrated. Food allergies are usually characterizedas IgE mediated (immediate) and/or non IgE mediated (delayed, cell – mediated). Food intolerances are responsible for most adversefood reactions and are categorized as enzymatic, pharmacologic or idiopathic food intolerances. Adult patients mainly acquire food allergyvia primary sensitization to inhalant allergens on the basis of cross reactivity between proteins in inhalant sources and in food. Pollen-foodsyndrom is the most frequent cause of food allergies in adults. Nuts, fruits and vegetables are some...

Expanding of resistance of still susceptible strains of bacteria to antibiotics, associated with the increasing consumption of antibiotics in bothhuman and veterinary medicine, is occurring faster than the marketing approvals and the implementation of new antibiotic molecules to clinicalpractice. The development of new antibiotic molecules is troublesome, expensive and timeconsuming. Inspite of this, 30 new antibioticmolecules were registered in the last 15 years and more than 10 molecules are in the process of phase III clinical trials. Therefore we can expect further new marketing approvals in the field of antimicrobial drugs in the upcoming years....

Chronic hepatitis C therapy using Directly Acting Antivirals (DAA) has high efficacy (till 100 %), minimum contra-indications and extraordinarilyfavorable safety profile. Primarily, it is necessary to pay attention to drug-drug interactions. However they are well documented and successfullyresolvable already in general clinical practice. Current possibilities of interferon-free therapy represent combinations of sofosbuvir withother DAA or with ribavirin and combination of paritaprevir boosted by ritonavir + ombitasvir ± dasabuvir. Fixed combinaton of elbasvir andgrazoprevir is already available in some countries of the world.

Drug form interchanges are considered as a source of savings in drug cost. The drug form interchanges produce reduction in drug costs as well asin hospital stay costs. The aim of this study is to demonstrate effectivity of these procedures under specific conditions of Czech healthcare system.Previously published data combined with current prices of selected antibiotics and costs per hospital day were used. Drug form interchangesand shortening the time of the intravenous therapy produce potential cost savings as high as 2 % of cost per hospital day in particular healthcarefacility. In the previously published study they were around 10 %. Economic impact...
