Biological therapeutics (biotherapeutics) are drugs or potential drugs obtained by other methods than chemical synthesis or isolation of substances, i. e. of chemical entities, from plant (biological) material. Biological therapeutics are mostly obtained by recombinant technology: therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, new type vaccines, therapeutic proteins as well as combined drugs, usually consisting
of a controlling component, therapeutic component, and various drug carriers. Biotherapeutics are sometimes defined as drugs that are not small molecules mostly referred to as chemical therapeutics.
