Oropharyngeal candidiasis is a typical opportunistic infection of the oral mucous membrane and the pharynx, most commonly caused
by the yeast Candida albicans. Being manifested only rarely in healthy adults, the condition is much more common in infants and young
children, the elderly, and, in particular, immunocompromised patients. The article presents the basic types of the disease and provides
an overview of the medications used. Based on international guidelines, attention is paid to the management strategies in children and
adults with no serious disorder of the immune system.
