The aim of this article is to review briefly the chronic venous disease (CVD) – one of the most common diseases affecting population of Western countries. The anatomy and physiology of lower extremities venous system are discussed as well as important disturbing factors leading to loss of their function. The article furter dwells on conservative therapy of venous insificiency concerning mainly compressive therapy and pharmacotherapy.

Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin and a member of the vitamin B group. The biological effects are associated with its metabolites, particularly 5-methyl-THF (metafolin). The demand for folic acid increases two- to three-fold during pregnancy. An inadequate intake of folic acid is either absolute, i. e. a reduced intake in food, or relative, i. e. disorders of its metabolism. Elderly patiens are more than twice as susceptible to averse drug reaction as younger patiens. These reactions are likely to be more serious and extend hospitalization longer, that for a younger patiens. Changes with aging in body composition, and in drug metabolism, distribution, excretion and response are the reasons for greater vulnerability observed in this patiens. Use of potentially inappropriate medication in elderly patiens is a major health care concern. There is need avoiding medications with a high potential for averse events and recommended alternatives with lower risc.

Denosumab is a fully human recombinant monoclonal antibody (IgG2), that inhibits bone resorption by blocking receptor activator of nuclear factor kappaB ligand (RANK ligand, RANKL), which is the key mediator of function, formation and surviving of osteoclasts. Natural antidepressants Mood disorders, mainly depression, are nowadays one of the most frequent mental illnesses. Although there are many antidepressants with different mechanism of action on the market, in cases of mild depression herbal remedies can be used. The article describes selected plants with antidepressant effect – Hypericum perforatum, Sceletium tortuosum, Panax ginseng, Rhodiola rosea, Magnolia and Crocus sativus. Some of them are already used in the therapy, others may be used in the future. Some plants are available for sale as dietary supplements. Magnolia, Crocus sativus.

Almond oil contains 20−30 % of linoleic acid glycerides present in several types of ceramides. The article discusses the importance of lipids as a component of emollients and their effect on the skin barrier. Almond oil is an available pharmaceutical raw material and can be formulated in extemporaneous preparations intended for adjuvant therapy of dermatitides and for skin care. Also included are formulas for class I topical corticosteroids, containing an oleophilic base with almond oil, that are particularly suitable in paediatric practice.

In this article, the author introduce various instruments of oral hygiene in children and presents different toothbrushing techniques recommended in each age category. Toothbrushes, interdental hygiene tools, toothpastes and mouthwashes are described in details. Parents have a highly important role in oral hygiene of their children, since not only could be a good example to their own children but also because they teach their children to clean properly their teeth, they assist during toothbrushing, they supervise the implementation of oral hygiene and they provide with motivatation their children for keeping their oral hygiene in good standards.
