Everolimus is a selective immunosuppressant, one of the mTOR inhibitors. It is mostly used in treatment of adult patients to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney or heart and in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma or pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours. A novel indication is treatment of children with subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA) with tuberous sclerosis complex who are not suitable for surgical intervention. Everolimus was approved in this indication in 2011. It is administered orally once daily in dosage of 2.5–7.5 mg. Anionic cream is a pharmacopoeial, but not universal, excipient in the form of a hydrophilic cream (an oil-in-water emulsion) that can be used for extemporaneous preparation in pharmacies. The article deals with the composition, structure, and galenic properties of anion cream. The examples of formulas presented here illustrate the options of incorporating individual drugs into pharmaceutical preparations that can be used in dermatology in case a light, not too greasy, water-washable cream base is required.

Baroreflex belongs to systems of short-term blood pressure regulation. In everyday life we convince ourselves of its proper function because it is applied during quick changes of body position such as getting up or lying down (orthostatic or clinostatic reaction). The sensitivity of its adjustment is investigated by provocative manoeuvres or determined by mathematical calculations. In clinical practice it has remained as one of the parameters serving to stratify the risk of development of sudden cardiac death to patients with cardiovascular diseases.

The paper brings basic information about forms of particular vitamins and their relationship to biological availability. It deals with influences that can contribute to loss of vitamins during technological processing of foodstuff and antivitamins. Further, the paper contains clear tables of recommended daily allowances for healthy adults of various areas (CR, EU, USA) and actually available over the counter drugs containing vitamins. It briefly considers issues of nutraceuticals incorporating vitamins.

Infectious diseases, whether viral, bacterial, or other etiology, accompanied our population throughout its existence. For many centuries, infectious diseases were very common cause of death, regardless of age. Antibiotic treatment has commenced a new era in the treatment of infectious diseases. In the last decades, there was, unfortunately, also excessive use of antibiotics and are now confronted with a serious resistance to many antibiotics. Manifestation of adverse events of the treatment with antibiotics and an increased number of resistant microbial strains compels us to think also to other than antibiotic treatment of infections.

The paper is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of individual Faculties of Pharmacy in former Czechoslovakia, where the faculties were established by government regulation in 1952 at the universities in Brno and Bratislava. A brief overview of events that led to their creation and circumstances of their existence are presented.
