The present article complements the Czech Chamber of Pharmacists (ČLnK) Guideline on atopic dermatitis published previously (1) and presents more detailed information, particularly on emollients that are the mainstay of treatment and are often used as part of self-treatment. Also mentioned are the principles of therapeutic action of individual therapeutic groups as well as practical advice on how to correctly apply particular agents. Emphasis is placed on suitable and safe handling of local corticosteroids. Allergy - actual therapeutical posibilities

The ocurrence of allergies grows worldwide. The artical brings actual therapeutical possibilities of allergic diseases. The treatment should be complex. There are some tips how to try to eliminate allergens from the patient‘s surroundings. The main part of the paper is focused on particular groups of active substances: antihistaminic drugs, corticosteroids, antileukotrienes, specific immunotherapy, biological therapy with monoclonal antibodies.

Menopausal symptoms and hormone replacement therapy

Climacteric problems caused by estrogen deficiency can be possibly divided into neurovegetative, organic and somatic. The basis of prevention and therapy of these problems is hormone replacement therapy (HRT). To women with an uterus a combination of estrogens and progestins is given, to women without uterus estrogens only. HRT should by given in the lowest effective dose in the shortest possible time and should be individualized according to needs of patient. In the Czech republic many medicinal preparations for HRT in different drug forms are available.

New antivirotics in the treatment of hepatitis C

Treatment of chronic hepatitis C is undergoing extraordinary changes in the past 3 years. Direct-Acting Antiviral Agents (DAAs) are gradually introducing into routine clinical practice either in combination with pegylated interferon and ribavirin, or in interferon-free regimes. Boceprevir and telaprevir have been approved in the Czech Republic since 2012. Sobosbuvir and simeprevir have been available in the United States since the end of 2013, as well.

Possibilities of pharmaceutical care in patients with systemic sclerosis

Systemic sclerosis is a rare chronic connective tissue disease. Approach to the patient should be comprehensive and individualized according to the clinical manifestation of the disease. Treatment options are still only symptomatic and are based on the European League Against Rheumatism recommendations. Pharmacotherapy should be further encouraged with non-pharmacological and lifestyle changes. The role of the pharmacist is especially in patient education, in identification and management of drug problems and in increasing adherence to treatment.

Ruscus aculeatus is an evergreen plant from Mediterranean Area. Main active compounds are saponins – ruscogenin and neoruscogenin. They are used as a chronic venous insuficiency, hemorrhoids and metrorrhagia treatment. Ruscus extract presents efficacious and safe therapy of these illnesses.

Nutritional support administered as enteral nutrition has become an essential component of care of patients with various diagnoses. Malnutrition is a frequent complication of numerous underlying conditions. Enteral nutrition is the management of choice. In practice, it implies administration of solutions with an accurately determined composition of nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, trace elements, vitamins, and prebiotics) into the digestive tract. A functional digestive tract, ensuring sufficient absorption of nutrients, is a condition for the use of enteral nutrition in order to improve the patient's nutritional status....
