Glaucoma is a chronic, progressive and non-reversible optic neuropathy, associated with an increase in intraocular pressure which involvesloss of retinal ganglion cells and their axons which form the optic nerve. Clinically it manifests characteristic visual field defectsadequate distribution of nerve fibers. Glaucoma can be divided according to the etiopathogenesis of primary and secondary glaucoma.In this article, we mention glaucoma generally, primary glaucoma, acute angle-closure glaucoma and then diagnosis and therapyof glaucoma generally.

Heart failure is a frequent disease with a serious morbidity and mortality. The article summarizes new recommendations for pharmacologicaltherapy for chronic heart failure. The mainstay of treatment is to interfere with neurohumoral activation that plays a crucial role in thepathophysiology of heart failure, in particular with beta blockers and ACE inhibitors; in the case of persistent symptomatology with mineralocorticoidreceptor blockers. The results of studies of the angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor appear promising. The recommendationsnewly include ivabradine.

The review article on the issue of menopausal hormone therapy focuses on transdermal forms of treatment. The authors describe a case of a female patient suffering from the DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) syndromewhich was associated with administration of allopurinol. In addition to skin lesions and typical hematological abnormalities, an acuterenal failure requiring hemodialysis was detected in the patient. Liver and pancreatic injury was also manifested. Cessation of allopurinoland comprehensive intensive treatment including local and systemic corticosteroids led to a regression of skin lesions, restoration of diuresis,and improvement of renal function. Functions of the other affected organs were restored, too.

Oral candidiasis treatment in neonates and infants is still a current issue. Until recently, the therapeutic solution of this disease has beenconsisting mainly in using extemporaneously prepared medicinal products in the oromucosal cavity containing non-specific antifungalagents. Although oromucosal gels and suspensions containing specific antifungal agents are not available as registered products in theCzech Republic, during the past five years got to enrichment of the portfolio for compounding with new substances.
