The ESC/EAS guidelines for the management of dyslipidaemias published in August 2016 represent a large reference document summarizingthe development over the five years since the first version was published in 2011. They reflect the knowledge achieved in many areas – fromdiagnosis and cardiovascular risk stratification to setting therapeutic goals and guiding management to the issue of dyslipidaemias in selectedspecific groups of patients. Proprotein convertase subtilisin-kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is mainly responsible for the recycling receptors for LDL particles. This results in an increasein LDL levels, which then drastically contributes to the development of atherosclerotic changes in vessel wall. This increases cardiovascularmorbidity and mortality.
