Antidepressant therapy during pregnancy which is sometimes necessary in clinical practice poses certain risks. Although theserisks are relatively small, according to results of studies so far, it is still necessary to consider them in the treatment. The choice ofantidepressant should be individually considered for each patient.

Self-monitoring and it´s importance in modern treatment of diabetes

Self-monitoring means measurement of certain parameters by a patient himself or herself with the purpose to evaluate a treatmentefficacy. In the case of diabetic patients self-monitoring is represented mainly by glycaemia measurement by using a personalglucometer. Patients are educated to know glycaemia target values and in the case of insulinotherapy they are trained to be ableto provide insulin dose adjustment according actual needs. Patients measure glycaemia not only randomly but they providesystemic glycaemia profiles to evaluate fasting glycaemia as well as postprandial values and glycaemia during night. Glucan in the present medicine

Glucan is a natural immunomodulator intensivelly studied the past twenty years. Besides the known effects in infectious andtumor immunity, the interest of researchers in the recent years focused on its other potential effects. The aim of this short reviewis to provide basic information about glucan. The list is completed with results of our own clinical examination, demonstratinga significant stimulatory effects of short time glucan supplementation in the group of children with diseases of the respiratory tract.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum – active compounds and therapeutic effects

Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a perennial herb originating from Southeast Asia where it is known as jiaogulan. Many bioactivecompounds were isolated from aerial parts of this plant; the main pharmacologically active components of jiaogulan are thegypenosides, which are dammarane-type triterpene saponins. Recent studies confirm numerous pharmacological effects ofjiaogulan, the most promising is its antidiabetic, anti-cancer and neuroprotective activity.

Children’s skin is a highly sensitive organ, so it is not surprising that skin rash and eczema are among common complaints in the veryearly age of life. The second part of the review article further discusses the issue of non-infectious skin problems in infants and toddlers.This time with a focus on seborrhoeic dermatitis, atopic eczema, and skin reactions to sun exposure or to contact with animals.

Fertility and pregnancy detection – how the pharmacist can help?

Fertile days and pregnancy detections are of great importance for the reproductive health of the women. Ovulation as well as pregnancytest is based on the similar principles and they have similar design. Recently, very sensitive and reliable tests are available, buttests of various producers are different in the quality. Test selection should respect the test properties and its adequate certification.

Rhinitis and inflammation of the nasal sinuses, which significantly deteriorate the quality of life of the patient, are among the mostfrequent reasons for visiting a pharmacy. This article introduces the reader to the possibilities of self-treatment of rhinitis andrhinosinusitis with the use of over-the-counter products and appropriate regimens associated with the treatment and preventionof this disease. In the introduction, the paper addresses the causes of inflammatory diseases of the nasal cavities developmentand symptomatology – their knowledge is essential for the choice of effective and safe therapy.
